Religious exemption/gay adoption in UK

A couple of weeks ago a thread on looming issues and religious liberty
identified religious exemptions and child custody as areas of interest.
The subjects come together in a current controversy in the United
Kingdom over a religious exemption for gay adoptions. Those on the list
with a comparative law bent might be interested in a story today in the
Guardian Unlimited online - Blair: no exemptions for Catholics on gay
adoptions (Tony Blair tonight insisted there would be "no exemption"
from new gay rights laws for faith-based adoption agencies....). The
