Bobby-- You are right.  That is what I meant, and while it is a  criticism 
that can be levelled at any term, it is an important criticism in the  current 
climate of the culture wars in the U.S.  A lot of freight has been  riding on 
"Christian," as in this is a "Christian" country.  The term in  this climate 
obscures more than it reveals.

Perhaps Marci simply meant that a perfunctory reliance on some assumed  thick 
conception of Christianity often does more harm than it's worth.   But that 
can probably be said of any concept at all. And the problem here  is with the 
kind of reliance not with Christianity.
