But Eric's first post did not raise First Amendment issues, and I was framing
my questions in the context of the points raised in his post. Of course,
speech which denigrates other people's religions is protected speech. If it
is a state actor who denigrates another person's religion then, naturally,
that presents a different question. I did not raise the issue of proscribing
intolerant speech when I asked about from whose perspective the speech ought
to be judged as "respectful criticism" or denigration.
