Justice Stevens and religion

Dear all,

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts or reactions to Justice Stevens'
observation in dissent in Dale that "like equally atavistic opinions
about certain racial groups, those roots [of unfavorable opinions of
homosexuals] have been nourished by sectarian doctrine," notwithstanding
the move to "greater understanding within some religious
communities."

For what it's worth, this comment strikes me as, at least, injudicious.
