By coincidence, in the midst of the Boy Scouts thread, an AALS
document on pro bono activities at law schools arrived on my desk.
The pamplet states, at pages 17-18:
"The Commission believes that active faculty participation in pro
bono work is highly important for the sake of their students. Law
teachers teach as much about professional responsibility by what they
do as by what they say. If our conduct and actions are inconsistent
with the principles and rules that we teach, we undermine both our
credibility as teachers and the legitimacy of th ethical principles
and rules themselves."
That sounds very much like what the Boy Scouts are saying.
[In the spirit of David Cruz's disclosure, I too am involved in the
case -- on the other side, as should be evident.]
