Perhaps the "opposing views" on the issue of the make up of law faculties are
not really so opposed. On the broad spectrum of political beliefs, the two
majority parties in this country make up a small slice of that spectrum (see
Chomsky). If the studies truly show that a majority of law professors are
Democrats -- and I have no basis to question those studies or their accuracy
-- that still does not prove that law school faculties are nevertheless not
mostly white, male, and relatively conservative, if one compares those faculty
members with legal scholars, such as those who are writing in the area of
critical race theory.
