Michelle Reynolds and Paula Reed were sexually molested by their
priest, and sued the church for, among other things, negligent
supervision. A Connecticut trial court has allowed the lawsuit to go
forward, citing Nutt v. Norwich Roman Catholic Diocese, 921 F. Supp.
66, 74 (D. Conn. 1995). "The Free Exercise Clause . . . cannot
prohibit this court from determining whether the Diocese should be
liable for negligently allowing its employees to engage in criminal
conduct." Reed v. Zizka, 1998 WL 123050 (Conn. Super. Mar. 5);
Reynolds v. Zizka, 1998 WL 123047 (Conn. Super. Mar. 5).
