1. Our listserve colleague Tom Berg was quoted in a Knight Ridder
article by Jeff Diamant that appeared in the Phila Inquirer (in
seemingly unabridged form) on Sunday March 22. The article addressed
"when workplace and religion collide." Tom: if you want, I'll mail
you the Phila Inquirer version of the article -- give me a snailmail
address.

2. Penna has its first voucher program, though it is going to be
challenged. The motive: religious choice? Nope. The school board
decided that it would be more efficient to deal with the expected
"bubble" in the population of school age children by enticing them to
go to private schools than to build new facilities. Most of the
private schools in or near the district are religiously affiliated
(mostly Catholic parochial schools) and the district's Catholic
population percentage is about twice the average in the Phila area
(which is much higher than the national average). If anyone wants the
extensive article, first with a snailmail address can have it.
