Wisconsin voucher decision

The Wisconsin Supreme Court today upheld the Parental
Choice program for low-income students in Milwaukee, which
includes religious as well as non-religious schools,
against both federal and state constitutional challenges.
The decision was 4-2 on the state issues; the dissenters
did not address the federal issue. The opinion is thorough,
sensible, and well-reasoned. You can get the full opinion
at jsonline.com, an internet source maintained by a
Milwaukee newspaper.

News reports say that the plaintiffs may petition the
Supreme Court, but frankly I would be surprised. Surely the
most likely outcome in the Supreme Court is a 5-4
affirmance.

A great day for the First Amendment, in my opinion.
