Tax Support for Schools

Both my kids have gone to private schools, and I am President of
one. I vote for all the bond issues to offset the reflexive no votes of
the anti-tax zealots. In theory the school board could propose something so
obviously wasteful that I would vote no, but in practice you can never tell
that from the proposal.

The last bond issue, I wrote a letter to the editor supporting the
bond issue. Part of the argument was that kids in private schools will grow
up in a world where most adults of their generation were educated in public
schools. If those public school graduates were not given a decent
education, it will be a very harsh world, and a private school education
will be no shelter from the social consequences.

I will cooperate with Rick to make both public and private schools
better, but I will not cooperate with any effort to starve the public schools.
