Landlord's and Free Ex

I am still chuckling over Dan Conkle's landlord exercise. I actually
teach landlord-tenant (first year Property), and I pair the Christian
landlady hypo with one involving a religious pacifist who refuses to
rent commercial space to a gun dealer (I assume a law that forbids
discrimination against lawful businesses).
The students "see" the Free Ex interest in the gun dealer hypo, and I
think this helps them "see" the Free Ex interest when we talk about
Mrs. Smith's refusal to rent to unmarried shackers-up. But they don't
like what they see. They would just as soon throw that
"fundamentalist" landlady in jail and flush the key! This is tolerance
as it has come to be understood in some circles today.
Our students have been indoctrinated in the tenets of the sexual
revolution, and it is difficult to penetrate their closed minds on
this issue. And, of course, they have never heard of freedom of
contract or property rights.
