I would not fight the 10 commandments fight in ol' Alabam', but I think Rick
is exactly right about why some people find this a battle worth fighting. A
(perhaps) less trivial example is public prayer, be it public school,
graduation, or legislative. These fights are as much about symbolic
victory in the culture war Rick describes than about the prayers
themselves, which often have little meaning independent of what one can
deduce from the bare fact they are given.
