Those interested in the continuiung saga of Kiryas
Joel may find interesting an article in today's NY
Times, "Hasidic Rebels Sue Sect for Religious
Persecution," about a federal civil rights action
filed against Kiryas Joel by "dissident" Satmars.
Also, the forthcoming March 1997 issue of the Yale
Law Journal has an interesting (though in my view
somewhat labored) student note, from what I would
describe as a cultural studies perspective, on the
rhetoric associated with the case and academic
commentary.
