I sincerely apologize to Michael Paulsen for misconstruing his
comments as advocacy for quasi-insurrectionary violence. As Paulsen
suggests, I was misled, and I am happy to be corrected on this point.
(When Abner Greene first characterized Paulsen's view as advocating
quasi-insurrectionary violence, I almost dashed off a post to the
effect that "I have not heard Michael Paulsen, or anyone else on this
list, advocate violence." But Paulsen's own response, which did not
deny the premise, caused me to think I was the one who misunderstood.)
In my opinion, when the subject of abortion-related violence comes
up, the genuinely pro-life response is to abhor the violence both
inside and outside the clinics. The pro-life cause is deeply injured
by the acts of a tiny, tiny few whose indefensible deeds are used by
cynical voices on the other side to discredit the entire movement and
to distract attention from the violence that goes on every day under
color of constitutional right.-- Michael McConnell (U of Utah)
