A word on witches: Witches were feared throughout post Christian history,
but they were not always executed or even imprisoned, e.g. if
they promised to cease and desist. In England, the burnings stopped
when the rules of evidence changed. In America, e.g. in
Salem English rules of evidence were disregarded, and this supported
the court's actions. Even people: judges and ministers who knew better
allowed these wrongs to take place, only to apologize later on.
