Aren't there at least two "offensive" phrases in the debate as reported:
"Christian civilization" and "bleeding half-naked male corpse?" The
former is insular and monocultural; the latter disrespectful of one of the
many cultures (not to mention religions) that inhabit the "state" of
Germany. What strikes me the most is the lack of willingness to phrase
beliefs in a way that acknowledges not sheer relativism, but the
unavoidable fact of plural perspectives.

The ostensible basis for the particular protest -- no women priests --
seems to me a category mistake. The fight is with the Church as it
conceives of itself, and to call on government action to demonstrate
something "wrong" about the Church's action is to recapitulate the
ACTUAL entanglement of church and state while professing to protest it.
