Hello Network Members,
The National Library of Medicine's History of Medicine Division has launched a new web site, "Emergency Preparedness and Response: How to Safely Stabilize Library Collections in the Event of a Water Emergency," available at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/preservation/index.html. The site includes a link to the mobile version, http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/preservation/mobile/index.html, to facilitate remote access. The site is designed to assist and educate first responders engaged in disaster situations involving cultural heritage items, by providing easy access to best practices as currently known by NLM. The multimedia web site has explanatory text and video clips to demonstrate salvage and recovery techniques and procedures for historic and general collections affected by water. Building recovery, disaster preparedness, and health risks are also addressed by the web site.
The web site is a collaborative effort involving the History of Medicine Division, National Network Office and Preservation and Collection Management Section (Library Operations), the Office of High Performance Computing and Communications (Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications) and the Office of Computer and Communications Systems, among others.
