Introducing Health Professionals to NLM's Online Systems
CME credit (Continuing Medical Education) is available for classes that
network members can teach that cover PubMed, consumer health resources from
NLM, or PHPartners.org. Information about how to arrange for CME credit for
these classes is posted on the nnlm.gov Web site at
http://nnlm.gov/train/nlmsys/.
Note that the NIH Office of Education oversees the CME credits and that
specific guidelines MUST be followed. For example, the title needs to be
the same as that listed, and the NIH info needs to be on the publicity.
A REQUIREMENT that went into effect earlier this year is for instructors to
return a signed "conflict of interest disclosure form" BEFORE the scheduled
date of the class. A copy of this form is also available at
http://nnlm.gov/train/nlmsys/.
If you anticipate teaching a class with CME credit provided through the NIH
Office of Education during calendar year 2006, please sign and return the
form to Kay Deeney as soon as possible. In addition to your signature,
please provide your name, job title, phone number and e-mail address on the
form in the appropriate spaces.
To make it easier, the nnlm.gov website has information on Program Outlines
and Brief Course Descriptions.
Many hospitals have their own CME departments that handle this for their
staff. Hospital librarians may want to inquire at their institution.
If you have any questions, you can email me.
