The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Southwest Region,
will underwrite the registration cost for up to ten (10) regional sites
for the broadcast of MLA's Educational Webcast:
Keeping Patients Safe:
Roles for Information Professionals
Wednesday, November 16
11:00 AM ? 1:00 PM, Pacific Time
9:00 AM ? 11:00 AM, Hawaii Standard Time
5:00 AM ? 7:00 AM, Guam Standard Time (Thursday, November 17, 2005)
Goals:
The goals of this teleconference are to enhance knowledge about patient
safety, competencies, and the skill sets needed to equip information
professionals to successfully participate in patient safety initiatives
in
the health care setting and their communities.
Objectives:
* Provide an overview of the topic, issues, and individuals involved in
patient safety work, such as computerized provider order entry (CPOE),
evidence-based care, and a culture of safety
* Assist information professionals in identifying relevant patient
safety
initiatives and potential partnerships in their communities for future
collaborative efforts
* Examine the various roles information professionals play in this
domain
* Provide current resources for additional learning about patient safety
**Deadline for application: Friday, October 7, 2005**
Please notify our office of your intent to apply for funding by October
7th, 2005.
Cost:
Early Bird Price (before Monday, October 17th, 2005)
$375.00 per Site
Participants will receive 2.0 MLA Continuing Education contact hours for
the teleconference alone or 3.5 contact hours if wrap-around sessions
are
included. Site coordinators will receive 1 activity point applicable to
their Academy of Health Information Professionals membership. Special
consideration will be give to those sites that anticipate a minimum of
ten
(10) participants.
Once your request for funding has been approved, you will need to
register
directly with MLA and serve as local site coordinator. You may charge
participants for logistical arrangements, such as refreshments and
parking,

NN/LM PSR will publicize a list of regional viewing sites in upcoming
weeks, and will circulate the videotape following the teleconference. If
you are unable to attend the conference, you can request a loan from our
