Please share this with BRUIN friends seeking a summer pre-med assignment
with a major local hospital.

The Cedars Sinai Clinical Medical Experience is now accepting inquiries for
summer 2007. Following are instructions on how to contact Cedars and submit
your name to receive an application. Applications will be distributed to
students on the list in March.

Important Note: Please don't refer to this assignment as an "internship" at
any stage of your application. The physician who runs this program will
offer the advice that "intern" refers to hospital residents already
attending med school. Please use the name of the program ("Experience in
Clinical Medicine") to make the best impression.

Best of luck and let us know if you apply! Chris Howell

CEDARS-SINAI EXPERIENCE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE FOR PRE-MED COLLEGE STUDENTS

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center offers an "Experience in Clinical Medicine for
Pre-Med College Students" summer program. Participation in this program
allows students to have a close glimpse into different specialties in
medicine and interact with medical students, physicians in training and
practicing physicians. The goal is to help students get a better
understanding of what it takes to be a physician in training, and
ultimately, a practicing physician.

Students can request an application by e-mailing Elsa Aguilar at

Program Description:

This intense, full-time clinical exposure program is ideally suited for the
college student in his/her junior year who is interested, but undecided
about a career in medicine.

An average day at the medical center will run from 7:30/8:00 am to 5:00 pm
weekdays. Emphasis is placed on clinical exposure, not "book learning."

Days will start at about 7:30/8:00 am with "Chief Medical Residents Teaching
Rounds," followed by Ambulatory Care Clinic on most days, or experiences in
various clinical areas of the hospital (blood bank, dialysis, intensive care
units, among others). Students will attend the Noon Emergency Medicine
Lecture series, various Departmental Conferences, Grand Rounds, as well as
Clinical Pathology Conferences.

Additionally, time will be spent in the offices of private physicians of
various specialties pending scheduling allowances. Exposure to medical
students and residents, rotating through specialties in medicine,
pediatrics, surgery, psychiatry, etc. will be included. It is hoped that
direct interactions at various levels will lead to frank discussions and a
better understanding of what it takes to be a physician in training, and
ultimately, a practicing physician.

Dates of Program: July - August

APPLICATION: Applications will be e-mailed to students on the second week
of March, 2007

INTERVIEWS: Interviews take place in April

ACCEPTANCE: Six students

At the end of the program, students will be expected to write a five-page
essay on what they learned from their summer experience at the medical
center.
