The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university
that advances health worldwide by conducting advanced biomedical research,
educating graduate students in the life sciences and health professions, and
providing complex patient care. The summer research programs at UCSF provide
undergraduate and master's students with the opportunity to conduct research
in the biological, biomedical, and behavioral sciences. Through a
comprehensive 9-week summer experience, the programs strive to prepare
students for graduate study and a research career in the health sciences.

In each program, college students planning to earn a Ph.D. in the health
sciences work full-time with UCSF faculty members on research projects. At
the end of the program they submit abstracts and give oral and poster
presentations of their summer research. Seminars on scientific and
professional development topics are presented. Social events and small
group activities in San Francisco round out the programs, enabling students
to bond closely with their new-found friends and future professional
colleagues.
