Remember your first quarter at UCLA? Remember the mixed sense of awe and
intimidation you felt? Then help next year's incoming students through this
transition!
The Incoming Student Advising and Mentoring Organization (ISAMO) seeks ALL
current students from ALL different backgrounds and experiences at UCLA to
guide next year's incoming class of freshmen and transfers through their
transition into the large university atmosphere.
What would you do as a mentor? Well, you would be first and foremost a
resource. From your career here at UCLA, you have internalized lots of
insights about this school. ISAMO wants you to share them. For example, how
do we pay for on-campus housing, which is separate from BAR? What classes
should someone enroll in 2nd quarter? How do buses work here?
When should someone book a plane flight back to NorCal for Christmas break?
How is a resume structured?
How do you become one? Couple of steps:
1. Fill out the brief application available at
www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/ftac by Friday, May 5 (Week 5) 5 PM.
2. Once accepted, you will need to fill out a questionnaire detailing the
areas in which you'd be a good resource (e.g., major, interests, post-UCLA
aspirations, etc).
3. Attend a one-day training either Saturday May 27 (Week 8) OR Saturday
June 3 (Week 9) to familiarize yourself with other resources.
At the beginning of Fall 06 you will be assigned a small group of mentees.
For further details please visit our website at
www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/ftac or e-mail ftac at ucla.edu. Thanks!
Best,
The ISAMO Team
