Thank you Bart.

I'll be interested to see what Christiano has when I come to Leuven. I
still hope though that someone can tell me a name or any description.

Happy Easter,

Regards,

Bassam

Dear Bassam,

Christiano Oliveira is conducting a study here at the KULeuven on
similar findings... He found these canals in a couple of patients (no
symptoms), and we expect them to be anatomical variations, but we are
still not sure of the exact nature of these canals (neuro- vasculo-,
combination...?)

He'll show you the cases when you come visit :-)

Cheers,

Bart

Subject: [Oradlist] Bi-lateral canals opening in the palate

Dear colleagues,

I got a case of a patient who went through implant treatment in 2006.
Since then the patient started to complain of irritation in the region
of the 21 and he thinks that he has a 'fistula' and sometimes he
complains of bad taste and foreign body sensation. The implant dentist
checked the restoration and the concerned pocket in the region and he
said that he couldn't find anything unusual. The patient was referred to
us for a CBCT scan. The cause of the irritation could be due to that the
implant is in the vicinity of the incisive canal (see photo 3).

However, upon making the reconstructions I also came across what looks
like bi-lateral canals extending medio-laterally from the frontal
process of the maxilla anterior to the naso-lacrimal canal and opening
palatally in the region of the 13, 23. Is this an anatomical variation
of the superior anterior maxillary artery or is it something else that
could be related to the patient's symptoms?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Kind regards,

Bassam
