[Oradlist] FW: Bereavement Notice-Francis Sippy

He was one of the generation of gentlemen that exceeds our class by at least an order pf magnitude. He was nor a "Dr."as a radiographer but did more for oral and maxillofacial radiology than most. I treasure his test and the memories of so many interactions at AAOMR Congresses. I learnt more about Angus Cattle than I wish to e=remember also! The AAOMR has lost more than its fair share of Gentlemen over the recent past and those of my generation have not filled their enormous shoes well. We have lost AAOMR Past Presidents Francis Sippy and Don Weismann, as well as Past Executive Bill Wege and radiation dose minimizer Fred Medwedeff in a very short time. My thoughts are with these gentlemen giants who welcomed me as a neophyte radiologist to AAOMR. As the new AAOMR President, I ask that AAOMR members look to these giants for guidance. Mentor and support our newer members.... and do so in the memory of true gentlemen such as Francis Sippy. Allan

I did not know Francis as well as you and Pete Benson did but my recollections of Francis Sippy is that he was a real Gentleman.

Thank you for posting the notice about Francis Sippy, Axel.

Since he has been retired for so long, many of the "younger generation" may not be familiar with him and his work. He was one of only two (that I know of) non-dentists (the other was Albert G. Richards) to be president of AAOMR (formerly AADR). He was a co-author of a textbook of dental radiology with Olaf Langland and Robert Langlais in the '80s.

Francis was active in the Academy at the time that I started attending meetings and I remember him as always being very welcoming. I always enjoyed talking with him whenever I saw him there.

Francis Sippy was a past president of the AAOMR (back when it was the AADR). Francis was at The University of Iowa until the year before I arrived. I had known him for many years prior to that.
