We saw a similar artifact. We are also using Air Techniques Scan X - PSP Digital Imaging System.
A student took 19 images for full mouth series and on mandibular central periapical we noticed a similar artifact. We looked at all the plates and did not notice any visible damage / dirt on the plates. All the sensors were scanned in the same scanner and there is no evidence of similar artifact on any other image. The patient is not wearing any plastic lip ring and does not have any restorations. I have attached the image.
Thank you

Subject: [Oradlist] PSP Plate artifact
Hi Everybody,
I was wondering if anyone has seen an artifact similar to
the one displayed on the mesial of the right maxillary lateral incisor and distal
of the central incisor that looks like composite resins, and has an idea of
what caused it. We are using the ScanX plates and scanners.
Thanks!
Heidi
