I think you are correct. Our IT department has a spider web restriction of
network. They had difficulty in installing the printer. I will ask them
again.
As I said, the print quality, both on film and paper, is great.

Very strange. We have a small local network 3 computers. One jet printer and
one Sony UP-D74XRD. I can use any printer from any computer. I think at you
a problem with network options. May be it connected through USB and then you
cannot print far off. Try to connect it through a network cable.

We have the Sony UP-D72XR. It is a DICOM printer. Print quality is great,
but we have a few issues with this. It requires a dedicated computer (cannot
be shared with another printer). I could not connect this printer to my
workstation as I already have a laser printer connected. If I need a print,
I have move from my workstation to another computer and then recreate the
desired slices. The film/paper size is 8x10 inches, which is good as the
prints easily fit inside our chart (we are not fully digital yet). To print
an image from iCATVision is also a hassle, as you cannot create a default
paper size of 8x10.
Because of these hassles, this printer mostly collects dust than work.

The Codonics printers are excellent, we own several models and they all have
been great. An alternative printer that has less cost, but equal in print
quality is the Sony models. We own several of these printers also. The can
also print in paper or transparency (blue film), and they have a color model
as well. The downside is they are not DICOM printers, and the maximum print
size is 8.5x11.
The cost for a new gray scale Sony UP-D72XR is about $6,000.00. The cost per
sheet of film is about $.70 for paper and $1.14 for transparency The Sony
color model UP-D75MD is $1,900.00 and the cost per color sheet of media is
$1.09

We've also been using a Codonics printer at UCLA for many years. Its main
virtues are excellent images, either transparencies in multiple sizes or
color or black and white paper prints. Also, if it breaks down (twice in 6-7
years in our experience), the company sends out a replacement machine
overnight ready for work the next morning.

I concur with what is said about the Codonics. I have used one for 5
years with print capabilities up to 17" x 14", monochrome paper,
monochrome transparency and color paper capabilities. It is not cheap in
initial outlay or in the paper/transparency supplies; however, if you
need printing capacity it is first rate. We use is primarily for CBCT
output, but also for all panoramic radiographs made in the Radiology
Clinic. One of the reasons for purchasing a top of the line medical
model was to ensure rapidity of printing throughput.

Dr. Fidler,
. Since 3 years ago we are using Codonics printer, not only for
panoramics
and cephs, also for cone beam prints. Its a very good machine, fast and
very
good images quality.
