[Oradlist] bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws

I am in private practice. I treat only "TMD" patients and use the training I
have in OMR for this daily.

I have many patients with what is suspected to be BIOSNJ. I have the cases
with intraoral lesions, but I also have many cases where it appears that the
condyles and sometimes fossae are involved. These cases are with orals! I
have CBCT and MRI on most of these patients.

If anyone else is seeing this type of degeneration please let me know.
Studies are forthcoming.

Subject: [Oradlist] bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws

Dear oradlist members,

I would like to ask you about the incidence of bisphosphonate-related
osteonecrosis of the jaw in your University or Institution.
Recently, Japanese dentists are nervous about this problem in comparison to
medical doctors.
Of course, intravenous bisphosphonate may be crucial problem in general
dental practice. However, it is questionable for patients who have oral
bisphosphonate for osteoporosis or other metabolic disease such as Paget's
disease.

Please let me know about how many patients with oral bis-related and
intravenous bis-related osteonecrosis of the jaw you have last 1 year.
Also it is preferable for me if you take specific radiographic finding of
this lesion.

Recently investigators in Horizon study have applied intravenous
bisphosphonate for osteoporosis treatment. They performed RCT (about 3700
case and 3700 control); however, they found each 1 osteonecrosis case for
both case and control during 3 years follow-up. (Post-hoc analysis in the
study of N Engl J Med, 2007; personal communication).

Thank you so much for your information.

Best wishes,

Akira Taguchi

PS. Please send your information to my e-mail address in addition to
oradlist.
