[Oradlist] ct scan obligation?

Dear Laurie,

Thanks for the charge. As the Chair of the AAOMR's position paper committee I will list a possible position paper for CBCT imaging as our top priority.

Although developing the position paper will mainly rely on this committee members' effort as well as AAOMR's support, we would certainly welcome input from our Worldwide dental and radiology colleagues, especially members of the Oradlist. The committee members will start to review literature and draft an outline for the paper. If you have any suggestions, concerns, recommendations, or previous experiences for the paper please let us know. You would certainly help us focus on important issues of CBCT imaging.

Again, as Laurie pointed out due to the nature of a position paper, it may take some time for us to prepare it.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Jie

Axel,
As Ernie pointed out, this is a priority charge for the Position Paper Committee. Yes, due to the very nature of a position paper, it will take some time to prepare. It will be of great interest and utility for guidance in presurgical implant planning.
Laurie

If I may be permitted to follow up on Ernie, and the AAOMR, I think that the AAOMR needs to put out an addendum or revision (but that takes too much time) to its guidelines. CBCT definitely needs to be addressed in the context of various activities, not the least of which is implants.

Also, his second point is valid.

	Hello,

It's certainly been a while since the publication of the AAOMR implant imaging position paper (2000). And the same can be said for the TMJ paper. Jie Yang, who is the Chair of the AAOMR's position paper committee in "on" the case with respect to the development of a position paper for cbCT imaging which could potentially be quite comprehensive. But that is Jie's "baby" at the moment, and he can speak to that.

I have one small plea before I sign off... It would be nice to know who is posting on ORADLIST. When postings come from "anonymous" e-mail accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo! or Hotmail, readers on this list have no idea who you are. As a courtesy to others, please give us a bit of context. Thank you.

	Hello again.

I am not sure that the FDA/ADA Guidelines are any better. Even trying to get into them on the ADA site is a circular click chase.

You can try the ADA or European referal criteria:

	- European: http://ec.europa.eu/energy/nuclear/radioprotection/publication/136_en.htm <http://ec.europa.eu/energy/nuclear/radioprotection/publication/136_en.htm>

	- ADA: http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/radhealth/adaxray.html

	CT-scan can never be obligatory.
