[Oradlist] Artifacts in CBCT images

Greetings.
      I am interested in artifacts which may degrade CBCT images. During my
review of the literature, I have come across mentions of different types of
image artifacts. Unfortunately, I have not been able to obtain images with
examples of such artifacts, nor have I been able to obtain satisfactory
explanations of why such artefacts occur. The artefacts in question are:
*                  a.      truncation,*

*b.      **halation,*

*c.       **beam hardening, *and

*d.    **saturation* artifacts.

     Furthermore, my understanding from some the literature is that ring
artifacts occur when the edge of the field of view (FOV) lies within the
patient's tissues (i.e. the FOV does not encompass the whole of the tissues
in the horizontal plane). However, the CBCT device we have in our university
has a large FOV which encompasses the entire head in the horizontal plane,
yet we still experience ring artifacts in our images. If you can provide any
information or insight into this subject, I would be very grateful. Thank
you.
