Dear Gulnara,
I would agree with Allan. The experimental work to date has not produced an equivalent in vitro periodontal radiographic model as good as the model developed by Leon Silverstone back in the 1960s for caries. Whatever you do must be indistinguishable from the in vivo disease process. It is worth spending a long time in developing and testing such a model for periodontal bone destruction since it is badly needed.
Best wishes.
Douglas

Gulnara: More to the point is how the defects you create compare to actual disease processes. Perhaps you should compare the acid treated defects with cadaver material of natural disease. Most papers that simply cut holes in bone or teeth are likely to be rejected outright by reviewers and editors of scientific journals. Best wishes, Allan

Dear colleagues,
Does anyone have any experience comparing periodontal bone defect "in vitro"
using burs and having the margins treated with 40% formic acid for 30
seconds?
We just started the pilot study and we dind´t note any difference between
bone defects with and without acid treatment.
We appreciate your help.
