The i-CAT has a "sister" system with different software specially
designed for ENT purposes. I have also had the opportunity to view 0.09
mm resolution reconstructions from the Kodak/Imtec Iluma and these look
first rate. Both Hans-Goran and Tom Schiff have shown me images of the
ear taken with the Accu-i-tomo that are excellent in quality. I do
believe that for studying the inner ear there are several
considerations. (1) Adequate spatial resolution; (2) Ability to prevent
motion artifact that could reduce effective spatial resolution; (3)
Software that can permit optimal display of the components of the ear;
(4) A thorough knowledge both of the normal and abnormal anatomy of the
structures concerned and how to demonstrate these using the technology
at hand; and (5) Appropriate credentialing to read, report and bill for
the procedure - and defend one's interpretation in a court of law if
ever necessary.
I am interested in details of the maximum resolution attainable with
the present NewTom unit and the means by which the patient can be held
in place so as to avoid motion artifact.
Best wishes,
AGF

Also the NewTom using the FOV 6 inches or even the 9" is an excellent
device for inner and middle ear.
In Italy some doctors already asked to work with it for ears even this
is not the real purposes of it.
The matter is with one scan You can get not only the ears imaging but
also both TMJ.
