In Canada, a sovereign nation within NORTH America, virtually every dentist
makes their own periapical, bitewing, occlusal and panoramic radiographs.
An exception to this are orthodontists who send their patients to our office
for pre- and post-treatment panoramic and cephalometric radiographs,
cephalometric analyses, study models and photographs.  In general, dentists,
be they general dentists or specialists, send patients to our imaging
facility because 1) we have equipment (i.e. conventional tomographic and
cone beam CT systems) that they do not have in their own offices; and 2)
because they know that there is an oral and maxillofacial radiologist who
can interpret these, as well as other images obtained from outside sources.

I hope list members can help me with the following two queries:

1) I know that in America, especially in the West Coast, it is customary for
dentists to send their patients to a 'Dental X-Ray Laboratory' for full
mouth surveys, pans and cephs etc. This is practically non-existent in UK,
where dentists take their own. Can anyone tell me, briefly,  in which
countries apart from USA, do dentists send their patients out?

2)  I seem to remember that there was some research which showed that the
diagnostic value of radiograph printed on paper was the same as that printed
on film. The problem was that dentists thought they could see more on a film
and so preferred it. Where can I find this research?
