The paper in question reports on pure basic research. What this
will do to human radiation risk estimates remains to be seen.
However, epidemiologic studies of human radiation carcinogenesis
are limited to fairly large doses on statistical grounds. Attempts
to provide support or refutation for extrapolation to low doses
must come from other approaches. This is one such approach that
does indeed show harmful effects at very low doses.
There remains much uncertainty in estimates of cancer risk at very
low doses.
