Re: Digitising intraoral radiographsAnd a good feature with Epson ist that
you can save scanning parameters so it is possible to scan all images you
want with same settings. If the optical densities are equal on film, the
pixel values will be equal too.

Keith,
We use an Epson Expression 1600 flatbed scanner at 600 dpi and are quite
pleased with the results. It is useful to use their software Highlight and
Shadow tools to get a broad range of pixel intensities over the region of
interest on the image.
Stu
Can anyone advise on what they think is the best (in terms of image
quality)
method of digitising conventional intraoral radiographs? A colleague of
mine
is doing some subtraction studies using intraoral film-based images
(conventional 3 x 4cm films) and is getting what he says is 'too much
noise' on the digitised images.
He is currently using a 'Minolta Dimage Scan Dual'. He also said that he
has
seen some images scanned with the DSR-EMS Scanner which are 'usable but
not
brilliant'.
Can anyone advise on what they think is best? (he works with
Colgate-Palmolive so he can afford the more expensive options!)
