**Yes, perhaps angulation of the panoramic beam is part of the
explanation. Contrast on a film-screen system, however, is often
better than on intraoral films. If caries is indeed present, perhaps
it is simply more obvious on the pantomograph. Obviously, careful
clinical examination of the tooth is necessary.
