Subject: Radiology (medical) chairmanship

Dear colleagues,

I have been appointed to the search committee for the position of chair of
the department of Radiology at the University of Mississippi School of
Medicine. The committee is charged with conducting a national search for the
best possible candidate. The committee chair has asked each committee member
to aggressively seek nominations from our colleagues.

I am asking you to encourage any potential candidates you might know who
would be good leaders to send applications to:
James L. Hughes, Jr., MD
Chair, Radiology Search Committee
Department of Orthopedics
University of Mississippi Medical Center
2500 North State Street
Jackson MS 39216-4505

We are looking for a visionary leader for a department of radiology in an
expanding medical center, where significant opportunity exists for
departmental reorganization and expansion. The Medical Center consists of
Schools of Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Health Related Professions, Medicine
and Nursing, a Children's Rehabilitation Center, hospitals for children,
adults, and women and infants. It is affiliated with a center for the blind
and a private rehabilitation center, which is attached to the hospital
complex. The Medical Center is a participant in a medical mall, which has
been granted a cancer center, currently in the planning stages, where the
radiology department will be a significant contributor. The Medical Center
has a history of interdepartmental cooperation. Ideally the new chair will
foster increased interaction with oral and maxillofacial radiologists and be
amenable to the granting of clinical privileges in radiology to OMRs.

Advertisements should appear in about two months' time in the usual
radiological, medical and higher education publications and run for about
three months. We are aware that there are 36 vacant academic radiology
chairs around the country, and that the search will not be easy. Any help
you can provide will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kevin.
