Dear Dr. Pasta, Dear Prof. Ghigi,
in the attached message you write, if I understood it correctly, that the dose of dental CT is 6 times larger than the dose of a volumetric scan using the Newtom facility.
It would be of interest to compare the effective doses of both modalities. Since I do not know the effective dose used by the Newtom instrument, I would like to ask whether someone on oradlist could post it in order to faciliate comparison with
Low-Dose Dental CT.
Best regards

original message:
Dear Oradlisters and Andre Gahleitner,
I attach the letter that the Prof.GHIGI,Director of
Oral and Maxillo-Facial
Radiology of the University of Bologna, has sent me
after I asked for one judgment of his on e-mail of the friend Gahleitner:
Dear Pasta,
I concern to the e-mail that you have received from the
Austrian colleague I
answer you that I don't agree.
Personally in 16 mounths of use with the
MAXISCAN-NEWTOM I have been able to
study not only situations pre-implant and post-implant
but also grafts and
bony distractions,to appraise the relationships among
the eighth ones
inferior included and the mandibolar channels,to
appraise cystic
pathologies,extraneous bodies held,anomalies and
included dental elements,to
give evaluations on the paranasal breasts and on the
TMJ;recently I have
effected a comparative study between the
NEWTOM-MAXISCAN and the spiral TC
GE with dentascan in endowment to the S,ORSOLA HOSPITAL
in BOLOGNA.The
study,object of a thesis of Degree and,I hold,of e next
publication,it shows
an equivalence of results on different patients but
with similar pathology
of dental interest.
I have verified the absorbed dose in progress of
examination spiral TC and
MAXISCAN-NEWTOM on a limited number of patients,that
nevertheless point out
a relationship 1:6 to favor of the VOLUMETRIC T.C.;the
friend Prof.MANNELLA
of the University of Ferrara has recently introduced a
Poster to an
International Congress just on this comparison.I have
asked him the extreme
of the publication and it will be my hurry to trasmit
you them as soon as in
my possession.
Do I concern to the TC to low dose(?)of which speaks
the Austrian colleague
I would like to know more something;particularly I
would like to know some
publications on the studies that it reports to have
performed for power to
express a judgment.
In conclusion,I think that my thought on this matter
coincides with the
your:to the actual state the VOLUMETRIC
TC(NEWTOM-MAXISCAN)it represents one
valid alternative to the traditional and spiral
TC,allowing assumptions of
meaningful diagnostic images in dental and
maxillo-facial circle,with
notable saving of radiant dose and with smaller
uneasiness for the
patient.
