Andre,

I believe that some of the older units (20-30 years ago) such as Belmont and
SS White units also had exposure settings based on anatomic sites.  The
current Siemens MD70 also does.   So it is not a new idea.  What is
disappointing to me is that I know of practitioners today (graduates for m
the 1960's) that still use the same setting for any intraoral view.  So
there appears to be some wisdom from the manufacturers to post settings
based on the anatomic site.
