The 1977 ICRP method or calculating effective includes doses to the salivary
glands and gives them their own weighting number. This makes sense in light
of Preston-Martin and White's brain and salivary gland article (J Am Dent
Assoc 1990.120;151-8). However, the 1990 ICRP method of calculation does not
list salivary glands separately or include them as remainder organs:
adrenals, brain upper large intestine, small intestine, kidney, muscle,
pancreas, spleen, thymus, and uterus. Should remainder include salivary
glands? Was their exclusion merely an oversight? Did they mean to treat
salivary glands separately?. What is your take on this?
