On behalf od Dr. Lars Hollender, President of the AAOMR, I am pleased to
let members of the Oral Radiology Community know that the ADA Council on
Dental Education is recommending that Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology be
granted specialty recognition by the ADA.
What does this mean?
It means that our application will move on up the process with a positive
recommendation. It means that the Committee on Specialty Recognition has a
full plate for the coming 6 months. It means that we will need the support
of our colleagues to ensure that recognition is granted.
For those of you unfamiliar with the process, the application has been
reviewed by Council and its specialty committee. It now goes to the
Reference Committee on Dental Edication and Related Matters, which will
meet just prior to the House of Delegatse in Washington, DC, during the
October 18-22, 1997 annual meeting of the ADA. As far as I know, the ADA
Board of Trustess will also deal with the application.
The application then goes to the House of Delegates with the recommendation
from the Reference Committee, and the Council, for the members of the House
of Delegates to vote upon it.
What does this NOT mean.
It does not mean that OMR has been recognized. There is time, now, for low
key optimism, BUT NOT FOR CELEBRATION, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, NOT FOR
UNRESTRAINED AND INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS.
Let us keep our eye on the prize, as they say, and act in the professional
manner for which OMR is known. We have a good case, and we shall present it
