Reception 6PM; Presentation 7PM; Panel 8PM

Moore Hall 100, UCLA

Ricardo Dominguez, associate professor of Visual Arts at UC San Diego, is the founder of Electronic Disturbance Theater (EDT). EDT is known for its virtual sit-ins and other acts of "Electronic Civil Disobedience" in Mexico and the US., including most recently the UC Virtual Sit-In of March 2010 and Transborder Immigrant Tool, a mobile application to help border-crossers locate water and first aid. As a result of these projects, the University of California attempted to revoke Professor Dominguez's tenure in 2010. The presentation and panel will examine the artistic, legal, and ethical implications of the work of Professor Dominguez and EDT. Speakers include members of EDT/b.a.n.g. lab: Ricardo Dominguez, Brett Stalbaum, Micha Cardenas, Amy Sara Carroll, and Elle Mehrmand; attorneys Nabil Abu-Assal (Cypress LLP) and Andy Serwin (Foley & Lardner LLP); UCLA Professors Chon Noriega, Janna Shadduck-Hernandez, Charlene Villaseñor Black, and UCLA doctoral student Megan Debin.

Event is co-sponsored by the Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section of the Los Angeles Bar Association, Cypress LLP, and UCLA's Chicano Studies Research Center, Department of Art History, and Department of Art.
