road trip

I received my master's a few weeks ago (yeah!!!!) and will be
leaving LA in a few weeks to work in Seattle. A company is
moving all of my junk and I will be driving my pickup north. I
have been thinking about doing a road trip and was wondering if
any other people would be interested.
At this point I have nothing more than a vague plan. I am
leaning towards taking a route up 395 through the eastern deserts
of California and cutting over to I-5 around Weed. The other
option is taking PCH, which would be beautiful but really slow.
Since I am going one way, I figured that we could caravan until
people wanted to turn around and then would part ways at this
point. If people wanted to continue all the way to WA it would
be fine with me, but a general poll of grad students suggests
that most people don't have the time to take a really long trip
to go all of the way and come back. I only have one extra seat
in my truck, so someone could fly back if they so desired as
well.
Since we would do side trips along the way, it would take us
about four nights to reach Portland, where I am going to hang
with my family for a few days. Hotels/motels would probably work
best for places to stay along the way. Camping introduces a lot
of stuff that I really don't want to deal with on this trip, but
if people can convince me that it would be easy and wouldn't take
a lot of planning (ie. food, where we would camp, getting
campsites, etc.) then I might be up for it.
If this sounds interesting, please drop me an email soon.
As I have said, it is all vague at this point and will get more
concrete over the next few days.
Good luck with finals!
