1) SUSTAINABILITY INTERNSHIP: The University of California (UC) Office
of the President is seeking a qualified intern to assist with
implementing the UC Sustainable Transportation Policy and Guidelines
from July 2007 to June 2008.
Scope of Work:
The internship research/project is intended to result in a work product
useful to the Office of the President in the ongoing implementation of
the Sustainable Transportation Policy and Guidelines. Favorable
consideration will be given to research/projects which combine a variety
of support, e.g. a class project which could be expanded to meet broader
objectives, or research or a project with a campus transportation,
parking or fleet office which could be broadened to benefit all
campuses. In particular, the Office of the President is looking for an
intern who is interest in researching any of the following topics:
- Existing carbon footprint campus transportation (fleets and well as
commuting)
- Fuel consumption at UC campuses
- Sustainable options for UC vehicle purchases
- Mechanisms for maintaining student involvement in transportation
policy implementation (eg. course proposal for Education for Sustainable
Living Program (ESLP));
- Defining "sustainable tires"
- Other research which could benefit all UC campuses
The UCOP Sustainable Transportation Intern will be expected to attend a
variety of UC meetings related to implementing the sustainable
transportation policy and guidelines. He or she is also expected to
participate in planning the transportation track of the 2008 UC, CSU,
CCC Sustainable Campus Conference. This will involve conference calls
over several months.
The student selected for the internship may choose to work from his or
her campus of attendance, at the UC systemwide office in Oakland, or a
combination thereof. Information about UC's sustainable transportation

2) Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) currently has
several paid internship opportunities available in different divisions
of Planning and Policy including:
Community Development, Modeling, Growth Forecasting, Transportation
Planning, Environmental Planning, Housing, and GIS Information
Technology. Interns will provide administrative and technical support
to department staff by performing a variety of assignments that consist
of research, writing and
presenting reports. All Applicants must be current students in a
Bachelors or Masters degree program or recent grads that will be
continuing their education.

3) SOUTHERN CA JOB: Entry-level Chemist or Environmental Scientist

Perform water quality analyses and studies related to watershed-wide
water resource programs.

4) San Francisco Green Business Associate: 1 year full time position.
The San Francisco Green Business (SFGPB) is a voluntary environmental
awards program that provides hands-on support followed by recognition to
San Francisco Businesses wishing to operate in an environmentally
responsible way.
The Green Business Associate will provide program development and
implementation support to Program Managers and professional staff in
performing professional level work such as the following:
* Track green business applications in a database and handle
communications for the green business program.
* Record environmental best management practices implemented by
businesses on a green business checklist.
* Perform on-site green business evaluations.
* Conduct trainings at local businesses on green business practices.
* Measure the environmental and cost benefits of the green business
program.
* Assist in the development of green business checklists for various
business sectors.
* Compile audit summary reports for every enrolled business.
* Assist in updating and maintaining content of the program website.
* Develop a green resource guide (w/green vendors, products, practices)
to help businesses become green.

5) The Alliance to Save Energy is seeking a full-time Senior Program
Associate to implement the California Green Campus Program out of its
Oakland, CA office.
The Green Campus Program is a student-driven energy efficiency and
conservation initiative serving University of California and California
State University Campuses throughout the state. The Green Campus Program
employs and manages paid student interns on each participating campus,
these interns develop and implement programs that foster energy
efficient behaviors, and identify operations changes and retrofit
opportunities on their campuses. We are seeking an individual who is
willing to make a commitment to implementing and further developing the
Green Campus Program.
The Senior Program Associate manages day-to-day program tasks of the
Green Campus Program and makes a significant contribution to the
program's strategic direction.
Candidates should have a good eye for detail but also be capable of
seeing the bigger picture. In addition the Senior Program Associate must
have excellent written and oral communication skills, public speaking
and meeting facilitation experience is essential. Candidates who have
experience working for campus sustainability initiatives will be
strongly favored and a familiarity with energy efficiency is a definite
plus. 1-2 years of professional experience with preference given to
candidates with non-profit experience. A bachelor's degree in a related
field is strongly preferred. Lastly, candidates should be self-starters
who can juggle multiple tasks with a minimum of supervision and
guidance.

6) Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Internship Program
NOAA Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS) is seeking
applicants for a bilingual intern position for our International MPA
training program and CINMS education programs.
The time line for this project is June - October , 2007.
- Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish
- Desire to learn about local, national, and international marine
education programs and management capacity building programs
- Available Monday - Friday, 15 -20 Hours Weekly, Part-Time Flexible to
work at NOAA Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Office in Santa
Barbara, CA
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office Programs
Work will include coordinating review of Sustainable Fisheries
curriculum for a management capacity building training program that will
take place in Ecuador, communication with international partners in
Central and South America, and assistance with implementing CINMS
education programs.
Benefits include: Federal Volunteer Service Hours; potential to go out
to the Channel Islands on NOAA Research Vessel Shearwater, and exposure
to Federal and International marine education programs. This is not a
