Question about Arlington Heights case

In Village of Arlington Heights v. MHDC, the Court indicated that 
court should not intervene against an action motivated in part by 
race if the defendants could show that the same action would have 
been taken even if race had not been considered.  Does anyone know of 
case law or scholarship elaborating on this point?  Off list replies are fine.
