The defense-against-tyranny argument may have made sense when the 
weapons available to government were less different from the weapons in 
common use than is true today.
The defense-against-private-violence argument may have made sense when 
the militia were the only police forces available.
What we need today is to curtail the spread of lethal weapons and make 
government more transparent and accountable.
