more McCain

Haven't heard the Meade story. But a little Googling on the subject of
presidential birthplaces will turn up some stuff about Chester A.
Arthur. With all required caveats for not having real research, what
I've seen suggests that historians have never nailed down his true place
of birth. "Officially" it's Vermont, but it may have been Quebec. This
is supposed to have raised questions about his eligibility in some
circles. But the accounts I've seen say that while his mother was an
American, his father was an Irish immigrant. So it could have been the
combination of an alien father and foreign birth that is the alleged
trouble.

If someone has already pointed out the following, I apologize for being
redundant. I recall reading that one of the arguments for Lincoln's
choice of George Gordon Meade as the new commander of the Army of the
Potomac shortly before the battle of Gettysburg, was that Meade was born
in Spain of American parents, and therefore would not be eligible to run
for President against Lincoln in 1864. I cannot recall where I read
this. However, I did a quick Google search and found that Matt Drudge
has referred to Meade in connection with McCain's eligibility.
