THere were many of them; take a look at Paul Murphy's wonderful book
World War I and the Origins of Civil Liberties.

I have a vague recollection of a state case during World War I in which
a
defendant was sentenced to an inordinate amount of prison time for
making
some rather innocuous comments against the war. Any help would be
greatly
appreciated.

Off-list responses welcome.

Sincerely,

Jeff
