Early American Voting Demographics

My original inquiry  said nothing about relating public opinion over the 
desirability with  its legitimacy. Moreover, I think distinguishing between 
"republican" and  "democratic" regarding the ratification process is unhelpful.  Of 
course,  one might simply mean a distinction between representative democracy 
and direct  democracy.  But that has little to do with the distinction between 
 "republican" and "democratic" as those terms are used in political  
philosophy.
