Alito and one of Those Two Mistakes Up the Street

And if President Bush has a third opportunity to nominate a justice, and he wants to nominate a Hispanic, will there be a problem selecting a sixth Catholic for the Court? (I was asked -- by a Catholic colleague -- if there was a problem with five; I thought not, though I hadn't thought of the issue at the time) Ideally, and idealistically, there should be no problem, but what about 'pragmatic' politics?

A colleague tells me he is sure that Judge Alito is Catholic. Here is an AP
story that states that Judge Alito would be "the fifth Roman Catholic on the
current Supreme Court":

Is Alito Catholic? I'm not seeing that in the bios. Are you just
assuming he's Catholic because of his Italian ancestry?
