Who is next?

I think that Bush was absolutely right to seek someone from outside the existing federal )or, for that matter, any) bench.  So let me suggest a couple of possibilities:

Mary Ann Glendon, a superb academic, very strong Catholic (almost certainly anti-Roe), but also a Ksocial justice" Catholic who would, I am confident, receive lots of Democratic support

Lindsay Graham, who is emerging more and more as a truly independent thinker, certainly too conservative for my taste, but I'm not in charge of the appointmant.  The only thing ubattractive about him, from W's point of view, is that he is probably not Scmittian (or Yooian) enough re the President's "right to torture."

Tommy Thompson, the experienced former governor of Wisconsin and ex-:HHS secretary who really know how government works, unlike the fantasies indulged in by too many judges without such experience.
